FREQUENTLY ASKED CUSTOMER SERVICE QUESTIONS

Series 16 Questions & Answers

Q. What makes the series 16 an innovative product?
A. The series 16 is the first high density Mobile system that was designed to operate on an uneven floor surfaces targeted at the industrial market.
A. The series 16 has an innovative carriage that allows the system to travel over uneven floors, reference the attachment that defines floor levelness and process to check prior to installation. . Articulating joints and a pivoting attachment to the rack allow the series 16 to travel over the concrete floor and control stress to the racking system.

Q. How do pallet racks attach to Compacts carriages, can our customers use their current rack?
A. Yes, Compact builds a carriage to match the customer’s rack, Compact supplies a technical order form that identifies the dimensions required to order a system that will be manufactured to the customer’s racks.

Universal mounting brackets allow for the rack to bolt to the carriage assembly.

Q How is the system assembled?
A. Compact ships the wheel assembles & motor assemblies pre-assembled. The installer lays out the rail; checks to make sure the rails is with in the range of levelness, then anchors the rail to the concrete floor. Carriages are then assembled and pallet racks are bolted onto the carriages.

Installations are always done in modules, this minimize disruption to the customers day to day business.

Q. How is electrical attached, what is the power requirement?
A. The power is attached on top of the pallet rack so it’s out of harms way. The system runs on 120volts AC. A buss bar is used which is common in over head cranes applications.

Q. The rail, what is the size, when should I recommend to surface mount or recess the rail?
A. The rail is constructed from 1018 steel with a black oxide coating, 3/8” depth and 4 ½” in width. We recommend the rail to be recessed in large heavily traveled areas, in non-active or assembly areas with in manufacturing facilities we recommend surface mounted. Always allow your customer to make a decision. We sometime send out a rail for them to drive over. When the rail is going to be recessed contact Compact, we recommend the concrete be cut a ½” deep and 5” in width. This allows for the rail to be leveled and epoxy added preventing rail movement and concrete chipping.

Q. How can the series 16 be activated?
A. By either pushing either directional arrow on the control box or a remote that used by the fork lift operator. What is the distance from the control to activate the system? 10 to 12 feet. Is the control box UL approved and CSA, Yes the entire system is! Does Compact pre-wire the system; yes we send a complete wiring harness along with the system.

Compact controls are controlled by a micro-processor.

Q. Safety, how does a Compact safety system work?
A Compact has photo eyes mounted on each side of the carriage that will sense if an object is in the path of a closing aisle. Compact also has an optional cross aisle detection that monitors entry into an aisle. Compact’s system is designed that if a component would fail the system fails in a safe mode.

Q. What is the weight capacity of a series 16 system? 16,000lbs per rack section?

A. A rack section is defined as the area of an upright carriage beams and an upright. Side by side racks with center flu can then handle 32,000lbs.

Q. How long does Compact design a system?

A. We generally run a system about 60’ long, we can run systems back to back and tie the controls together for long systems..

Q. How fast does the system move?
A. Compact system starts with controlled movement, no jarring, then speeds up and has a gentle slow down prior to stopping. The average speed of the system is 3.25” per second. The system once activated sends an audible horn and a yellow blinking signal that the system is preparing to move.

Q. Can a fork lift enter an opening aisle?
A. Yes but never a closing aisle.

Q. Does the customer have to wait for one system to move then another?

A. No, the system has a feature called block movement. All of the carriage that are opening move together to maximize productivity.

Q. What happens if my customer wants more close space between the carriages?
A. The system can be re-programmed at job site to leave more space between racks if the customer has pallet over hanging. Each system is designed with 3” from the factory.

Q. What happens if a fire would occur?
A. Our product has an optional night park feature, which can be tied into the warehouse system. The system would be activated each of the carriages would open to allow more water to be dispensed.

Q. My customer has his sprinkler system installed in the racks. What do we do?

A. Flexible feeder lines are available in the market place that can be attached allowing the racks to move with in board sprinkler systems.

Q. Security, what does Compact offer?
A. Our series 16 has an option feature that supervisors can lock the system down preventing employees from entering the stored storage.

Q. What is the warranty of the system?
A. Compact has a three year warranty and two additional parts only on the rail. Compact has a life time warranty on the wheel bearing assemblies.

Q. Maintenance, what is Compact recommending?

A. Twice a year check the tension on the motor chain assemblies. Periodically clean out the rails. Quarterly check that all bolts and mounting attachments are tight and secure.

Q) How tall can my customer’s pallet racks be on a mobilized system?
A. Compact has a 4 – 1 ratio. Example. 42” rack + 12” flu spacer + 42” rack = 96” or 8’. The rack can be 32’ tall.
